Product filters

Within the app, you have the ability to filter products based on certain criteria. This can be useful when you want to export only a subset of your products. Filters can be added through the settings -> filter menu.

Classification filters

Products can be filtered based on their classification, allowing for more precise control over which products are included in the export. By selecting the desired classification, you can target specific subsets of your product catalog for export.

Key Behavior

When applying a classification filter, it’s important to understand the following behavior: - Inheritance of Export: If the filter returns a sub-model or a variant of a product model, the entire product model will also be exported. This ensures that all necessary product data related to the selected classification is included in the export.

Category filters

It is possible to filter products based on their category. This can be done by selecting the categories you want to filter on. With this filter, you can export products that are assigned to a specific category and thereby

Default Behavior: Root Category Filtering

By default, products are exported to Magento only if they are assigned to at least one child category of the selected root category defined for the channel in the Magento store profile. This ensures that exported products are directly tied to the category structure of the configured Magento channel.

Using a Custom Category Filter

When you apply a custom category filter, you can override the default behavior to include products that belong to categories outside the child categories of the selected root category. This allows greater flexibility in product selection for export. However, it is important to understand the following key considerations when using a category filter:

  1. Non-Child Categories Are Not Exported
Any categories outside the child categories of the root category selected in the Magento store profile will not be exported to Magento. The products will be exported, but their non-child categories will be ignored during the export process.

  2. Category Structure Integrity in Magento
Since non-child categories are not exported, this may result in products being assigned to a limited or default category structure in Magento. Ensure this aligns with your Magento category management strategy.

  3. Export Workflow Impact

    • Products that belong exclusively to categories outside the child categories will still be exported if selected by the filter, but their categories will not.
    • Products with categories within the child categories will behave as per the default category export rules.
Recommendations
  • Use category filters for temporary or specific export cases, ensuring that product categorization in Magento is adjusted manually if required.
  • When maintaining a strict category hierarchy in Magento, avoid using filters that include products outside the child categories of the root category.

By understanding these rules and applying category filters carefully, you can optimize product exports to match your Magento store’s organizational structure while avoiding unexpected category exclusions.
